FAQs
The ECO4 is an official UK government-backed scheme where qualifying homeowners & private tenants can have their insulation and inefficient heating systems upgraded and potentially solar panels fitted completely free of charge.
The scheme is funded through the Energy Company Obligation (ECO) in order to reduce the average cost of energy to a household and reduce the overall carbon footprint in the UK. Meaning the energy suppliers in the UK essentially pay for the scheme.
Homeowners or Private tenants who meet both of the following criteria qualify :
- The properties EPC is E, F or G rated
- The household is in receipt of a qualifying benefit
Job Seekers Allowance
Universal Credit
Pension Credit
Employment and Support Allowance
Tax credits
Income Support
Housing Benefit
Child Benefit
The EPC (Energy Performance Certificate) is a report based on the efficiency of the property at time of survey. It is graded on a scale of A to G, with households rated ; E, F or G entitled to full funding.
As the ECO4 Scheme is targeting inefficient homes only the EPC is the benchmark system that determines how efficient a home is.
A new EPC will be carried out on every assessment if there is not an up to date EPC already on file.
If your total household income is below £30,995 p/year, you are the homeowner and your house meets the deemed rating of E, F or G rated on its EPC then you may also qualify for the scheme.
